According to ScreenCrave, the original writers of the movie Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are working with FOX and Sony Pictures to develop a TV series that will try to get their hands on that fertile zombie market that AMC is currently dominating with WALKING DEAD.
Vulture broke the news thanks to its new columnist, Zombieland producer Gavin Polone, who confirmed that Fox and Sony Pictures are in talks with original writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick about developing the show for the 2012 to 2013 season… Unfortunately, should the series happen (and it’s looking good), it will finally put an end to the chances for a film sequel—but that probably wasn’t going to happen anyway.
That's too bad. Instead of another one-off movie, we'll be getting a more steady fix of zombies, probably with an all new cast of characters (or worse, actors to reprise the original roles), and there will be more human characters for the main characters to interact with.
Also, I didn't know this, but in an ironic twist, ZOMBIELAND is actually going full circle by winding up back on TV. Initially, the franchised was pitched to CBS as a show, but CBS said no. Then it went to SyFy, who let the project fall into development hell for years. A hit horror-comedy film later, it's come back home to the small screen.
